There are three general varieties of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) recognized based on morphological traits and geographical origins. This includes the main genetic groups, “Criollo” and “Forastero” and a third group, “Trinitario”, consisting of “Criollo”דForastero” hybrids (Motamayor et al. 2008).
