Faculty of Life Sciences University of the West Indies

In keeping with the St. Augustine Campus’ strategic focus on re-invigorating and re-positioning its research agenda, the Department of Life Sciences (DLS) continued forging ahead with its 6th Research Symposium on April 7th and 8th 2016. The Symposium once again showcased the DLS’s research together with the Department of Physics (DP) and the Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT). The research presented at the 2016 Symposium were again the result of rigorous basic and applied research conducted and in this instance, was central to the theme for 2016 which was Sustainable Development. This is especially of relevance for small island developing states (SIDs) such as Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean territories. It is clear that our research and researchers are attempting to find solutions to solve local, regional and global problems which affect the environment and not least of all- people.
