Abstract

Thomas Irwin Potter was one of the founder members and a former president of The Trinidad Field Naturalists' Club. He was born in Port of Spain on 14th September 1864, the elder son of Augustus St. Clair and Margaret Hutchison Potter of St. Vincent and Trinidad respectively. The Trinidad Field Naturalists' Club organised many outings to various areas of the Island and Thomas hardly ever missed one of them always taking along his camera to be able to capture on film interesting plants and creatures encountered on these expeditions. He was also a founder member and past president of the Horticultural Society and the services rendered by him to horticulturists in the country were invaluable.
