Junior Botanist: A fun introduction to plants for children

This book provides an introduction to botany (the study of plants) and a foundation to botanical principles in fun and interesting ways.

Plants are amazing; they manufacture their food using energy from the sun. They then use this food to grow. But have you ever wondered what else plants need to grow?

Plants grow everywhere. You can find them on land, in the ocean, in rivers, on mountain tops, in the dry desert and even Antarctica. How are they able to survive in these habitats?

You may be surprised to know that we use plants every day, from the food we eat to the clothes we wear! We also use plants for shelter, medicine and fuel. What are some useful ways people can use plants today?

Trinidad and Tobago is home to short plants and tall plants, edible plants, fresh-water plants, sea-plants and land plants. Plants provide many other products and services to people and animals. We are delighted to have you join us in learning about the fascinating world of plants.

This plant book is most suitable for children between the ages of 9 and 12 years, however, it may be useful or motivational to anyone interested to learn more about plants.

You may complete the activities by yourself or with a friend. The activities contained within this book are meant to inspire curiosity and help you explore the natural world around you. If you have questions or would like to share your plant photos and completed activities with us, please email admin@ttfnc.org.

Remember to have fun!

All the best,
